Me old mate 'Planet Brain' has apparently driven back home to the Cesspit safely after his brief stay here in the back of beyond, thus defying all expectations. Received the following message from him yesterday in which he had the gall to question my magnificent 6-5 victory in the Memory Olympics... (Unfortunately, though not surprisingly, due to a combination of incompetence and unfamiliarity with the workings of bloggeax, the doddery old git sent his message via a posting made some time ago where it was unlikely to be seen by anyone other than myself - it and my response deserve a better fate so I include them here for all to see.)

A lifelong aversion to porkys, fibs and the like compels me to bring to light a shameful case of 'economie avec la verite'. I refer of course to Frank's misleading assertion that it was he himself who took gold in the Memory Olympics (23.08.2008). While it is true that 'Charles Bronson' was a strong move that briefly brought the crowd (Sprocket et Jock) to its feet, the coup de gras (or lawnmower as we in Angleterre know it) was Deek's perfectly executed 'Ivor Cutler' which left Frank a struggling runner-up in the event.

Am highly relieved that you appear to have returned home safely. Hope the trip was enjoyable, sunny and without mishap or unplanned deviation. Did you stop for luncheon in a pleasant little restaurant? Did you stop off in Sees for an afternoon cuppa? Or, as suspected, did you make a few wrong turns, get hopelessly lost and finally make it by the skin of your teeth to the ferry at Caen just as the ramp was being lifted?

Well done in remembering the Quentin chap. A brilliant attempt at snatching victory from the jaws of defeat. However, after due consultation with the panel of judges, judge rather, I regret to inform you of the following: yes, un point for the correct(ish) answer but... minus un point for an incorrect spelling (it's 'Willson' not 'Wilson' - a common error and one which I frankly wouldn't expect from an educated wiseguy and experienced competitor such as your good self) and... another minus un for a blatant demonstration of smartarseism.
I await your response and expected outburst of indignant outrage with eager anticipation.
